Plantings – Tasks Relationship

One of the core strengths of Heirloom lies in its ability to seamlessly link plantings with tasks, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks as you manage your crops throughout the season. When you create a new planting, Heirloom automatically generates a comprehensive list of tasks that correspond to each stage of the crop’s lifecycle, from seeding all the way to harvesting.

Task Generation Based on the Planting Process

  • Seeding and Nursery Tasks: As soon as you set up a planting, Heirloom generates tasks related to the initial stages of the crop’s life. If you’re working with direct seeding, tasks like bed preparation and direct sowing will be scheduled. If the planting method involves a nursery phase, tasks such as seeding trays, potting up, and eventually transplanting are automatically added to your calendar.
  • Growing Season Tasks: Throughout the growing season, Heirloom continues to support you by scheduling tasks based on the crop’s needs. These tasks might include weeding, irrigating, applying fertilizers, or any other custom tasks you have predefined in the Data Charts. The system ensures that each task is timed to align with the optimal growth stages of your crops.
  • Harvesting Tasks: When it’s time to harvest, Heirloom doesn’t just stop at a simple reminder. It generates specific tasks for each harvest window, detailing the crop, planting location, and quantity expected to be harvested. It can do so automatically or you can specify each harvest tasks using the Weekly Harvests interface. Additionally, the system can create subsequent tasks, such as packing and shipping, ensuring that the entire post-harvest process is well-coordinated.
  • Custom Tasks: The tasks associated with each planting are not arbitrary—they’re driven by the data you’ve set up in the Data Charts. Whether it’s a standard task like applying a particular treatment or a custom task unique to your farm’s operations, these are all pre-populated in the Tasks tab when you create a new planting. This ensures that every action required to bring a crop from seed to market is accounted for in your planning.

The Dynamic Relationship Between Plantings and Tasks

As you progress through the season, any adjustments made to a planting in the calendar— like postponing the seeding of a crop— automatically update the associated tasks in the calendar. This dynamic linkage means that if you delay a planting or shift a harvest window, Heirloom will recalibrate all dependent tasks accordingly, saving you from manually rescheduling everything. With Heirloom, every task is planned with precision, keeping your farm operations running smoothly and your mind at peace.
