Onboarding your new farm

Welcome to Heirloom! Our onboarding process is designed to tailor the Heirloom experience to your specific farming needs and location. By understanding more about your operation, we can customize features to better serve you. Remember, you can adjust your preferences anytime via the Settings page.

Account Creation

Step 1: Sign Up and Email Verification

First, make sure to create your account and verify your email address. This is essential for securing and activating your account. Once verified, you’ll be prompted to enter your personal details and choose a secure password.

Tell us about your farm

Step 2: Purpose of Use

Identify whether you’ll be using Heirloom for commercial purposes, home gardening, or leisure. This helps us align features with your goals.

Step 3: Naming and Locating Your Farm

• Farm Name: Assign a name to your farm—it adds a personal touch!

• Farm Address: Begin typing your address, and our system will use Google Maps’ autocomplete service to help pinpoint your location. If your address doesn’t appear, you can manually enter latitude and longitude details in the Settings.

Step 4: Farm Foundation Year

Enter the year your farm was established.

Step 5: Farming Season

Specify the start and end of your typical farming season to configure your crop planning calendar accurately. Heirloom adapts to various farming timelines, whether you’re growing seasonal crops or year-round perennials like garlic.

Step 6: Measurement System

Choose between metric and imperial systems for measurements within Heirloom.

Step 7: Bed Sizing

Decide on using standard “bed” units or custom dimensions. The default “bed” size is based on practices recommended by the Market Gardener Institute.

Frost Dates

Understanding local frost dates is crucial for effective crop planning:

• Hard Frost: Define the date for when both air and ground are expected to freeze (typically below -4°C).
• Light Frost: Set the date when only the air is likely to freeze (around 0°C).
• If your region doesn’t experience frost, simply check the appropriate box.
