The Weekly Harvests helps you organize your harvests on a per Sales Channel or per Harvest Day basis, which allows you to streamline the process, ensuring that each client receives their orders on time and that your farm operations run smoothly.
Per Sales Channel Harvest Planning
When planning your harvests by Sales Channels, you begin by selecting the desired week. On the left panel, you’ll see a list of crops and their corresponding availability for that week. This availability is an estimate generated by Heirloom’s algorithms, which take into account data from your Game Plan, Data Charts, planting areas, harvest windows, and theoretical yields.
On the right panel, you can see each of your Sales Channels, such as farmers’ markets or CSA baskets. For each channel, you can allocate specific amounts of crops to be harvested on particular days. This can be done by clicking on the appropriate cell for the Sales Channel and entering the required amount for that day.
You can choose whether each harvest generates one, two or three associated tasks.
- Harvest Task: The basic task for harvesting the crops.
- Pack Task: An additional task for packing the harvested crops.
- Ship Task: If needed, a final task for shipping the packed goods to the customer.
These tasks are automatically populated in the Task Calendar for the specified week and are linked to the corresponding planting. You can update and mark these tasks as complete either from the Task Calendar or directly within the Harvest module for a quicker workflow.
Per Harvest Day Planning
Planning by harvest day allows you to focus on the specific logistics of each day’s harvest across all your Sales Channels. Similar to the Sales Channel view, you start by selecting the desired week. On the left panel, you see the projected availability of your crops. On the right, you see a breakdown by day, allowing you to assign harvest quantities for each day of the week.
The process of assigning harvest quantities is the same: click on the cell corresponding to the day and crop, and enter the amount to be harvested. This will generate the necessary tasks (harvest, pack, ship) in your Task Calendar, linked to the specific plantings.
Understanding Theoretical Availability
If the availability cell on the left panel turns yellow with an information icon, it indicates that the total harvests planned for the week exceed the theoretical availability for that crop. Heirloom’s theoretical availability is based on a mix of data from the Game Plan, Data Charts, planting area, harvest windows, and other factors.
However, if you believe that the theoretical availability is inaccurate (perhaps due to hands-on observations), you can click on the cell and manually enter an override value. This allows you to adjust the availability based on real-world conditions. If at any point you want to revert back to Heirloom’s theoretical value, simply click on the double arrow icon next to the availability input.
Total Per Customer or Per Day
In both views, Heirloom provides a total at the bottom of each column, showing the sum of the planned harvests either by customer (Sales Channel view) or by day (Day view). This total helps you quickly compare planned harvests with the available crop quantities, allowing you to adjust your plans as necessary to avoid overcommitting or underutilizing your crops.
